Worming your dog is not only an essential part of your dog's preventive health program, it is also necessary due to human health risks associated with worm infection. Below are some important points to remember with regard to worming your dog.

New puppies are really cute, cuddly and fun to play with. Like newborn babies, they are fragile and prone to sickness. And like newborn babies, a doctor needs to check on them first to ensure good health.

A puppy’s first visit to the veterinarian is truly important. It is the ideal time to discuss vaccination schedules, spaying and neutering, nutrition and puppy training.

Did you know that just like humans, dogs could suffer from arthritis too? A survey conducted across the U.S. showed 1 out of every 5 dogs suffer this chronic disorder – that’s eight million dogs in the U.S. alone!

What is osteoarthritis (OA)?
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis, occurring mainly in older persons. It is characterized by chronic degeneration of the cartilage of the joints, thus, is also called degenerative joint disease. Management of the disease includes medical intervention using drugs, exercise and physical therapy and consideration of orthopedic surgery.

Some pet owners follow this number one rule, some still don’t.

Vaccinating your dog is a simple procedure that is routinely done by all veterinarians. Vaccinations are safe and effective. Many diseases that were once considered fatal to dogs are now under control due to the use of modern vaccines.

Infection of intestinal parasites is a common health problem that is shared by young cats and dogs. However, it is difficult to know when they exist among our pets. Although many people assume that a pet with parasites will pass diarrhea or an abnormal stool, frequently, this is not the case.

Prewhelping preparations
You should have a sturdy, clean, proper sized whelping box for the litter. It MUST include a "pig rail" around the edge to prevent the bitch from laying on or smashing her pups. It should be big enought to allow the bitch to turn around but small enough to prevent the pups from being "lost" in the unused portions. About six inches longer than she is, fore and aft, when laying prone (as in suckling her puppies) and about a foot on either side length wise.

You may be wondering whether or not you should breed your dog. Here is some information. The summary is that if you want to do it right, and get healthy and happy puppies, it is very expensive and a lot of work. Many people have written several treatises on this subject including Ms Swedlow; this article compiles many similar points.

The Labrador Retriever Club, filed its articles of incorporation on June 1, 1994 and on the 28th of June, 1994 was registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission.

The Federation Cynologique Internationale is the World Canine Organization. It includes 79 members and contract partners (one member per country) that each issue their own pedigree and train their own judges. (The Philippines is a member country).

YOUR FIRST GOAL - SOCIALIZATION! When you get a new puppy there are some absolute rules you must follow to insure that your puppy grows up well adjusted. Puppies that are brought up through their critical socialization period correctly are less likely to become liabilities later in life.

One of the easiest and most effective ways of preventing your dog from getting sick is by making sure he gets all his vaccinations on a regular basis. Puppies need vaccinations every two to four weeks until they are at least 14 weeks of age. Most vets follow the schedules given below, although there may be some variation from state to state. Some vaccines are given separately, while others may be combined into a single shot, which makes things easier.

If a dog over 16 weeks of age has an unknown vaccine history, has not been previously vaccinated, or is more than six months over due, vaccinate and booster in 3 weeks, then annually. Intranasal Bordetella and Rabies are exceptions to the 2-4 weeks booster rule.

Proteins are the essential parts of all living cells and they have many important functions. For one thing, they help build cell structures and muscle fibre. As you are probably aware, it is very important to eat enough protein so your tissues can grow and repair themselves properly.

Your dog's energy requirements are largely based on his weight and activity level. Check the package and follow instructions carefully. If you feed your dog twice a day, divide the daily requirement by two to get the proper feeding amount

The Labrador Retriever Club, filed its articles of incorporation on June 1, 1994 and on the 28th of June, 1994 was registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission.

The Labrador Retriever Club, Incorporated was formed primarily for the purpose of promoting and upgrading the quality of the Labrador Retriever dog; for advancing the study, breeding, and maintenance of the breed; and the fostering of friendship among Labrador Retriever owners, breeders, and fanciers.

Kennel Cough is more technically known as Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis. This term localizes the most common clinical sign, coughing, to the trachea (wind pipe) and bronchi (within the lungs). It may be caused by several viruses and bacteria. These include the adenovirus type-2 virus, the parainfluenza virus, and the bacterium Bordetella bronchiseptica. The infection spreads rapidly from dog to dog in close quarters, such as a boarding kennel. This is the origin of its name.

Here is a nice comparison of two hips.

The one on the left is a normal hip. You can see how smooth and round the head of the femur is and how nicely the "ball" fits into the "socket". A hip with this structure is very unlikely to ever develop arthritis....unlike the abnormal hip on the right. Here you can see the result of years of irritation resulting from a poor fit, a shallow "socket", and a short neck attaching the "ball" to the shaft of the femur. This severe arthritis is a result of HIP DYSPLASIA.
